That’s right, Vestas Blades!
For those of you that have attended any of Chapter 354’s committee meetings, you would know how long we’ve been trying to arrange a tour of Vestas Blades. For those of you that have not attended any meetings, let me tell you, it’s been years!
Starting out as blacksmiths, the Hansen family built a manufacturing company that by 1968 was exporting hydraulic cranes to 65 countries.
In the 70’s, they started experimenting with wind turbines and in 1979, Vestas sold and installed its first turbine – with a 10-metre rotor and capacity of 30 KW. Thirty-three years after the installation of its first successful turbine, Vestas installed its 50,000th MW in 2012.
Vestas now has manufacturing facilities in eight countries – in North and Latin America, Europe, and Asia – and has more than 35 years of experience in wind turbine manufacturing. Rotor diameters now range from 105 to 136 meters. By monitoring more than 32,000 wind turbines 24/7 across the world and having the wind power industry’s largest wind data library, Vestas has an unparalleled insight into global wind and weather conditions.
Tour spaces are limited and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. If you make a reservation early enough to get a space, a blank Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be sent to you via email. Bring a completed copy with you on the tour. Please leave an email address so that an NDA can be sent to you. The tour will take 1 1/2 hours and attendees will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. The attendees must view a ½ hour safety film prior to gowning and entering the production area. Please see the meeting details (link above).
