Des Moines, Iowa - Chapter 80

May 2013

Chairman’s Message

In case you missed it, the April meeting and tour at the Miller Products was both informative and snow free. Kerry Richardson and Denis Weiser conducted the tour of their facility which featured a lot of new and vintage screw machines. As Denis pointed out, the older machines can be cost effective against the latest CNC equipment when applied to the right job. Thanks guys for the tour.

This month, we are heading to the Hewlett-Packard for the May 16th meeting. Amy Cunningham has been gracious enough to offer to host the tour of the HP Consumer Direct Services facility in Des Moines. With over 600,000 square feet in Des Moines, of which 300,000 was added in 2012, HP takes customer service and order fulfillment seriously. This will not be a manufacturing tour as much as an opportunity to learn about process automation and best business practices. This is H-P, after all.
