HOW CAN THE PITTSBURGH AREA ENHANCE THE LABOR FORCE EDUCATION LEVEL TO MATCH THE MANY MANUFACTURING JOB OPENINGS?
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is an organization that has programs that make this happen on a large scale:
- Gateway Academy – demonstrate to K to 12, preferably K to 8,what is manufacturing and what careers are in manufacturing using hands-on approach
- Project Lead the Way – continue the above on a 10 to 12 level
SME (sme.org) is a leader in manufacturing workforce development issues, working with industry, academic and government partners to support the current and future skilled workforce.
The SME Education Foundation’s mission, is to prepare the next generation of manufacturing engineers and technologists through outreach programs to enrich students to study (STEM) as well as CIM education.
These programs used together are very successful in other areas of the country because the high skilled workforce attracts manufacturing companies and help local companies fill their skilled jobs.
Is the Pittsburgh area ready for this?
Our SME chapter needs your support.
